MEET THE OWNER
KATHERINE MITCHELL
BEFORE OPENING KERPLINK PLAY STUDIO AND EVENT SPACE I WAS A TEACHER WITH A PASSION FOR PLAY BASED EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS. I AM A UNIVERSITY OF MAINE FARMINGTON ALUM AND HAVE SIX YEARS OF PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHING EXPERIENCE.

AFTER LEAVING THE CLASSROOM TO STAY HOME WITH MY CHILDREN, CURRENTLY AGES 3 AND 2, I REALIZED THAT PLACES WHERE YOUNG CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES COULD GATHER AND CONNECT WERE FAR AND FEW BETWEEN.

I HAVE A DEEP LOVE FOR THE PLACE THAT MY FAMILY HAS PLANTED ITS ROOTS. I ENVISION KERPLINK AS A CORNERSTONE OF OUR COMMUNITY, WHERE GUARDIANS CAN CONNECT WITH ONE ANOTHER AND THEIR CHILDREN, CREATING A SPACE THAT INSPIRES WONDER AND FOSTERS A SENSE OF BELONGING FOR EVERYONE WHO WALKS THROUGH THE DOOR.
WHAT'S IN A NAME
KERPLINK LLC WAS INSPIRED BY THE BELOVED CHILDREN’S BOOK BLUEBERRIES FOR SAL BY ROBERT MCCLOSKEY. I LOVED HEARING THIS STORY READ ALOUD ALL THROUGHOUT MY CHILDHOOD, CONNECTING WITH THE CHARACTER OF SAL AND HER WILD ADVENTURES PICKING BLUEBERRIES ON THE HILL. WHEN I WAS A TEACHER, I WAS SURE TO INCLUDE THIS BOOK IN MY READ ALOUD ROTATION. NOW I GET TO SHARE IT AGAIN, THIS TIME RELATING DEEPLY TO THE CHARACTER OF THE MOTHER, AS I READ IT ALOUD TO MY OWN TWO LITTLES.
THIS TIMELESS TALE, SET IN THE MAINE COUNTRYSIDE, CAPTURES THE SIMPLE JOYS OF CHILDHOOD, EXPLORATION, AND THE BOND BETWEEN PARENT AND CHILD. IN THE STORY, SAL AND HER MOTHER GO BERRY PICKING ON BLUEBERRY HILL. WHILE PICKING, SAL DROPS THE BLUEBERRIES INTO HER TIN PAIL, WHICH MAKES A DISTINCTIVE “KUPLINK, KUPLANK, KUPLUNK.”

THIS DETAIL HAS ALWAYS STUCK WITH ME. IT REMINDS ME OF MY OWN MEMORIES WITH MY MOTHER AND BECAME THE FOUNDATION FOR THE PLAY STUDIO'S NAME.

KERPLINK IS MORE THAN JUST A PLAY STUDIO AND EVENT SPACE. IT IS A COMMUNITY HUB WHERE FAMILIES CAN GATHER, SHARE EXPERIENCES, AND BUILD LASTING MEMORIES.
